Men of War: Assault Squad is a detailed World War II real-time tactics game built around controlling soldiers, vehicles, weapons, and battlefield resources at a much smaller scale than traditional base-building strategy games. Battles take place across several theaters and include forces from the United States, Soviet Union, Germany, Commonwealth, and Japan.
Each faction has its own infantry, tanks, artillery, support weapons, and battlefield strengths. Destructible environments, realistic ammunition use, armor penetration, vehicle damage, and line of sight make positioning and equipment management important throughout every engagement.
How the Gameplay Works
Players command infantry squads and vehicles from a tactical overhead view, moving them into cover and coordinating attacks against enemy positions. Individual soldiers can be selected separately when a more precise action is required, while the Direct Control system allows the player to personally aim and operate soldiers, tanks, and artillery pieces.
Ammunition, fuel, weapon inventories, armor direction, and battlefield visibility can all influence combat. Buildings and terrain can be damaged by explosives and heavy weapons, creating new lines of fire or destroying defensive positions. The game includes single-player skirmishes as well as cooperative and competitive multiplayer.
