Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a fast-paced third-person action game starring Raiden, the cybernetic ninja from the Metal Gear series. Set several years after Metal Gear Solid 4, the story follows Raiden as he works for a private security company and becomes involved in a conflict with the Desperado Enforcement organization and its heavily augmented soldiers. The campaign takes him through cities, military facilities, industrial areas, and other locations while confronting cyborg enemies, unmanned machines, and powerful bosses.

Unlike the stealth-focused approach associated with many Metal Gear games, Revengeance places much greater emphasis on aggressive sword combat, speed, and precision. Raiden can cut through enemies and parts of the environment with his high-frequency blade, while special mechanics reward well-timed parries and accurate attacks. The game combines cinematic action with a scoring system that encourages players to improve their combat performance and replay missions with stronger abilities and equipment.

How the Gameplay Works
Players control Raiden from a third-person perspective and fight enemies using light and heavy sword attacks, aerial combinations, parries, dodges, and special techniques. Blade Mode slows the action and lets players manually control the direction of Raiden’s sword strikes, allowing specific enemy body parts and objects to be cut apart. This can be used to remove weapons, target weak points, or precisely slice through vulnerable sections during combat.

Zandatsu allows Raiden to cut exposed enemy weak points and remove their energy cores, restoring health and fuel when performed successfully. Fuel is used for abilities such as Blade Mode and Ripper Mode, with Ripper Mode temporarily increasing Raiden’s offensive power. Defeating enemies and completing missions earns Battle Points that can be spent on new moves, weapon upgrades, health improvements, and additional equipment, while boss battles require players to learn attack patterns and make careful use of parrying and Blade Mode.
