Mosaic of the Strange is a story-driven puzzle game that combines enormous logic mosaics with a supernatural investigation. Special Agents Cullen and Brady are examining a bizarre murder, and solving interconnected puzzles gradually reveals evidence connected to the case. Along the way, players also uncover a large collection of files inspired by real reports of cryptids, alien encounters, hauntings, unexplained disappearances, conspiracy theories, and other strange events.
Rather than separating its puzzles from the narrative, progress through each mosaic opens additional information and pushes the investigation forward. The game carries a strong 1990s paranormal-thriller atmosphere, using pixel-art scenes, dialogue, unsettling case material, and an original soundtrack to connect dozens of hours of puzzle solving into one larger mystery.
How the Gameplay Works
Each mosaic is built from numbered clues that tell players how many nearby squares need to be marked. The logic resembles Minesweeper while also borrowing ideas from Picross, requiring careful deduction instead of guessing. Individual puzzle regions connect together into much larger layouts, making completion feel like gradually uncovering an enormous picture.
Completing sections unlocks paranormal case files and additional pieces of the murder investigation. Point-and-click story sequences provide conversations and environmental details between the larger logic challenges. As more areas are solved, players gain access to additional subjects involving unexplained creatures, disappearances, supernatural incidents, and unusual historical cases.
