No More Heroes follows Travis Touchdown, an anime-loving assassin who purchases a beam katana and unexpectedly enters the United Assassins Association rankings. Determined to reach the number-one position, Travis accepts increasingly bizarre assignments and challenges a lineup of eccentric ranked assassins.
The game mixes violent action with comedy, pop-culture references, strange side activities, and a deliberately unconventional story. Santa Destroy serves as a hub where Travis can prepare for ranked battles, earn money, improve equipment, and find optional activities.
How the Gameplay Works
Combat uses the beam katana for high and low attacks, combo strings, defensive actions, wrestling moves, and finishing strikes. The weapon’s battery decreases through use and needs to be recharged, adding another consideration during longer fights.
Ranked assassin battles require an entry fee, so Travis completes jobs and assassination missions to earn enough money for each challenge. Boss fights feature highly individual opponents with unique attack patterns, while upgrades and training improve Travis between major battles.
