No Retreat! The Russian Front is a digital adaptation of Carl Paradis’ strategic board game covering the enormous struggle between Germany and the Soviet Union on the Eastern Front of World War II. Instead of overwhelming players with thousands of individual counters, the campaign uses a relatively compact collection of large army and front-level units to represent the conflict across Russia.
The design combines traditional hex-based wargaming with card-driven events and an economic system that reflects the changing strength of both sides. German forces begin capable of major advances into Soviet territory, while the Red Army gradually becomes more experienced and powerful as the campaign continues toward its later stages.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move army-level units across a hex map and attempt to create breakthroughs, encirclements, and large sweeping maneuvers. Low stacking limits reduce overcrowding and place more emphasis on deciding where each important formation should be committed.
Event cards introduce unexpected situations and strategic opportunities throughout the campaign. Economic systems represent changing military strength across the four-year war, while victory can be achieved in several different ways. Each turn represents roughly two months, making individual decisions responsible for large periods of the historical campaign.
