ODDCORE is a frantic retro first-person roguelike where each attempt gives players only a few minutes to tear through a surreal collection of corrupted enemies. The game combines arena shooting, bullet-hell pressure, strange liminal environments, powerful weapons, stackable upgrades, bosses, gadgets, and deliberately unpredictable systems designed to make each short run feel different.
Runs can be influenced by soundtrack cassettes that provide gameplay effects, and players can even import their own music to generate custom cassettes with randomized statistics. Between attempts, a hub area and arcade provide additional activities away from the main combat arenas.
How the Gameplay Works
Players enter a run with a five-minute limit and must move quickly through hostile variants filled with enemies. Fast shooting and movement are essential because stopping for too long wastes valuable time. Weapons and specialized gadgets can be combined with large numbers of stackable items to create increasingly exaggerated combat builds.
Different variants introduce new enemy combinations and boss encounters. Soundtrack cassettes alter run conditions, while prizes earned through arcade activities can provide additional progression. An experimental sandbox editor also lets players build custom levels outside the normal roguelike structure.
