Overcooked! 2 is a cooperative cooking game where players work together in increasingly chaotic kitchens to prepare and serve meals before time runs out. The story once again follows the Onion King and his chefs, who must travel across the Onion Kingdom after accidentally unleashing the Unbread, an army of undead baked goods. Each stage introduces a different kitchen layout, recipe, or environmental problem that forces players to communicate and divide tasks efficiently.
The game expands on the original with new recipes, more varied stages, online multiplayer, and the ability to throw certain ingredients across the kitchen. Restaurants can take place on moving platforms, rafts, airships, roads, and other unusual locations, with parts of the environment shifting while players are trying to cook. The result is a fast and unpredictable experience where coordination becomes increasingly important as orders arrive more quickly and kitchens become harder to manage.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control individual chefs and complete different parts of each recipe, including collecting ingredients, chopping food, cooking, assembling dishes, serving meals, and washing plates. Every order must be completed correctly and delivered before its timer expires, with faster service and consecutive successful orders earning higher scores. Players need to divide responsibilities and adapt quickly when too many tasks begin happening at the same time.
Many kitchens contain moving floors, portals, conveyor belts, gaps, fire hazards, and changing layouts that can interrupt the normal cooking process. Ingredients can be thrown between players or across obstacles, making it possible to save time in larger stages. The campaign can be played alone by switching between chefs or cooperatively with other players, while Arcade and Versus modes provide additional ways to compete or work together outside the main story.
