Risen 3: Titan Lords is an open-world fantasy RPG set across a collection of islands threatened by supernatural forces and the continuing conflict surrounding the Titans. After the protagonist loses his soul during an encounter with a powerful creature, he begins searching for a way to restore it. The journey brings him into contact with different factions, pirates, mages, warriors, monsters, and characters whose support may help him fight the growing darkness.
The game returns strongly to the exploration and faction-based structure associated with earlier Piranha Bytes RPGs. Rather than following a completely fixed route, players can travel between islands, take quests in different orders, build relationships with factions, and develop the protagonist around preferred weapons or magical abilities.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore islands filled with settlements, caves, ruins, forests, beaches, and hidden treasure. Combat happens in real time using melee weapons, firearms, magic, dodging, and special attacks. Enemies vary greatly in strength, so exploring dangerous areas too early can make encounters considerably more difficult.
Quests provide gold, equipment, reputation, and opportunities to improve different skills through trainers. Joining a faction opens access to unique abilities and progression options, while companions can accompany the hero during exploration and combat. Ships provide transportation between major locations, making island-to-island exploration an important part of the adventure.
