About This Game:
Sid Meier’s Colonization is a turn-based strategy game about establishing colonies in the New World during the European colonial era. Players select a European power and begin with a small group of settlers before expanding into a network of towns, farms, trade routes, and production centers.
Economic growth is only one part of the challenge. Players must interact with indigenous nations, compete with other colonial powers, manage relations with Europe, and eventually decide whether their colonies are strong enough to declare independence and fight for freedom.
How the Gameplay Works
Settlers can explore the map, establish new colonies, gather resources, create manufactured goods, and specialize in different professions. Raw materials such as food, lumber, ore, tobacco, and cotton can support growth or be converted into more valuable goods for trade.
Ships transport goods and people between the colonies and Europe, while political development gradually builds support for independence. Diplomacy and military units become increasingly important as rival powers expand and the final struggle against the player’s home country approaches.
