Sons of the Forest is an open-world survival horror game set on a remote island filled with forests, caves, abandoned facilities, mutated creatures, and hostile cannibal tribes. The player’s original mission to locate a missing billionaire quickly turns into a struggle to understand the island and stay alive.
The game expands the survival ideas of The Forest with a much larger environment, detailed construction, seasonal changes, AI companions, and a deeper crafting system. Players can approach the island as a story-driven adventure or spend long periods building and surviving at their own pace.
How the Gameplay Works
Players gather wood, food, water, medicine, weapons, tools, and other materials while constructing shelters and defensive bases. A freeform building system allows logs to be cut and placed directly, making it possible to design structures beyond fixed blueprints.
Exploration leads into dangerous caves and underground facilities containing equipment needed to reach new areas. Cannibals and mutants respond to the player’s presence, while companions such as Kelvin and Virginia can provide help with gathering, combat, and everyday survival.
