Source of Madness is a dark side-scrolling action roguelite set in the Loam Lands, a twisted world heavily inspired by Lovecraftian cosmic horror. Players take control of a new Acolyte and travel through nightmarish landscapes on a journey toward the mysterious Tower of Madness.
Many of the creatures and environments use procedural technology, giving the monsters strange combinations of limbs, shapes, and movements. This makes encounters deliberately unpredictable and reinforces the feeling that the world is filled with unnatural beings that do not follow ordinary rules.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move through side-scrolling environments while using magical attacks, equipment, dodging, and character abilities against procedurally created creatures. Different character classes and magical powers support varied combat approaches during repeated runs.
Death ends the current attempt, but progression provides additional possibilities for future characters. Procedural environments and enemy generation change the challenges encountered between runs as the player pushes farther toward the secrets of the Loam Lands.
