The Age of Decadence is a choice-heavy role-playing game set in the ruins of a once-powerful low-fantasy empire. Political factions, ancient technology, merchants, assassins, soldiers, thieves, and religious groups compete for influence while the player attempts to survive and pursue personal goals.
The game places unusually strong emphasis on consequences, with character skills and dialogue choices capable of changing quests, alliances, access to locations, and the final outcome.
How the Gameplay Works
Character backgrounds provide different starting points and opportunities. Skills can support combat, persuasion, trading, crafting, sneaking, knowledge, deception, or other approaches, and many situations can be completed without fighting.
When combat occurs, it uses a turn-based action-point system where weapon choice, armor, positioning, and targeted attacks matter. Decisions can permanently close quest lines or create new ones, making different character builds experience substantially different stories.
