About This Game:
SpaceChem is a design-based puzzle game where players work as a Reactor Engineer for a futuristic chemical synthesis company. Each assignment requires raw materials to be transformed into specific molecular products by designing automated reactor systems rather than directly controlling every step of production.
The puzzles begin with relatively simple chemical structures but gradually introduce more complicated molecules, multiple reactors, production chains, and restrictions. There is rarely only one valid solution, allowing players to optimize designs around speed, size, or simplicity.
How the Gameplay Works
Inside reactors, players create instruction paths for automated manipulators that pick up atoms, move them through machinery, form or break bonds, rotate structures, and deliver completed molecules to output zones. Both paths operate simultaneously, making synchronization one of the major challenges.
Later puzzles connect several reactors into larger factories where the output of one process becomes the input of another. Successful designs must repeatedly produce the required chemicals without collisions or errors while meeting the assigned production objective.
