SpaceVenture is a science-fiction point-and-click comedy adventure created by developers known for the classic Space Quest series. The story follows Ace Hardway, a spacefaring repair technician whose ordinary maintenance job quickly becomes something much larger. Along with his robotic dog Rooter, Ace becomes caught in a bizarre intergalactic conspiracy involving dangerous technology, unusual aliens, corrupt authorities, and plenty of problems that were definitely not included in the original repair order.
The game mixes traditional adventure-game puzzle solving with humorous dialogue and a deliberately ridiculous vision of life in space. Players travel through junk-filled asteroids, strange planets, questionable space stations, and other futuristic locations while meeting eccentric characters. Building and maintaining Ace’s improvised spacecraft also becomes part of his journey across the galaxy.
How the Gameplay Works
Gameplay revolves around exploring locations, examining objects, talking with characters, collecting useful items, and figuring out how different objects or clues can solve problems. Many puzzles have intentionally comedic solutions, so experimentation is often as important as straightforward logic. Ace also carries technology and PDA applications that can become useful during specific situations.
As the story advances, players gather parts for their spacecraft and gain access to additional destinations. Some obstacles involve repairing machinery, interacting with alien technology, escaping dangerous situations, or finding unconventional ways around hostile characters. Rooter accompanies Ace through much of the adventure and is also involved in several puzzles and story moments.
