Solar Nations 2 is a large-scale grand strategy game set in a future where humanity’s political struggles have expanded far beyond Earth. Beginning in 2092, players take control of one of the major powers competing for influence, resources, territory, and eventually dominance across the Solar System. Colonization, technological development, diplomacy, warfare, politics, and economic expansion all contribute to the direction of a civilization.
The game extends traditional nation-based strategy into an interplanetary setting. Earth remains politically divided, while Mars, Venus, the outer planets, their moons, and distant regions offer new opportunities and dangers. Players can follow an existing power, reshape political borders, pursue ambitious technologies, or build completely different futures through the game’s scenario creation tools.
How the Gameplay Works
Players manage a nation through a strategic interface, balancing internal development with diplomacy and military planning. Colonies can be established away from Earth, technologies can unlock new possibilities, and fleets can be constructed for different roles. Military forces extend beyond spacecraft and can include traditional armies, aircraft, naval forces, and strategic weapons depending on the conflict.
Diplomacy and political decisions are equally important because rival powers may cooperate, compete, or enter large wars as humanity spreads through space. Players can customize ships, develop individual worlds, build major projects, and work toward technologies such as advanced robotics, genetic engineering, antimatter power, artificial intelligence, terraforming, and faster-than-light travel. Custom scenarios can also be created and shared with other players.
