Star Traders: Frontiers is a space role-playing and strategy game where players become the captain of their own starship and build a career in a large, changing galaxy. Rather than locking the player into one profession, it supports careers ranging from trader and explorer to bounty hunter, smuggler, spy, pirate, or military officer.
The galaxy is controlled by competing factions whose alliances, conflicts, laws, and political situations continue to change. Captains recruit and manage individual crew members, improve their ship, build contacts, accept contracts, and make decisions that can affect both their reputation and long-term survival.
How the Gameplay Works
Players travel between planets and systems while managing fuel, crew morale, finances, cargo, and ship condition. Missions may involve transporting goods, spying on rivals, hunting targets, exploring dangerous worlds, patrolling territory, or participating in faction conflicts. Relationships with factions influence where the captain is welcomed and what opportunities become available.
Combat is divided between tactical ship battles and separate crew encounters. Ships can be customized with weapons, defenses, engines, cargo space, and specialized modules, while individual officers and crew gain talents and experience. Character death and changing galactic politics can force players to adapt rather than follow a fixed story path.
