Split/Second is an arcade racing game built around a fictional television competition where the racecourse itself can become a weapon. Drivers compete through specially constructed city environments while explosions, collapsing structures, aircraft crashes, and other large-scale events can completely change what is happening on the track.
Instead of relying on conventional weapons attached to the cars, racers earn the ability to activate hazards positioned around each course. These events, called Power Plays, give races a cinematic style while adding a tactical layer to overtaking, defending a position, and disrupting opponents at the right moment.
How the Gameplay Works
Performing actions such as drafting, drifting, jumping, and closely avoiding hazards fills the Power Play meter. Once enough energy has been earned, players can trigger marked environmental events when rival cars enter vulnerable areas. Smaller attacks may cause explosions or drop obstacles, while stronger Power Plays can dramatically alter sections of the course.
The single-player season is structured like a television series with different racing events and episodes. Beyond standard races, challenges include elimination events, surviving waves of explosive barrels, avoiding missile attacks, and beating helicopters. New cars and events become available as players progress through the season.
