About This Game:
The Long Dark is a wilderness survival game set in the frozen Canadian north after a geomagnetic disaster disables modern infrastructure. Players must survive extreme cold, hunger, thirst, exhaustion, wildlife, injury, and rapidly changing weather while searching abandoned communities and wilderness locations for scarce supplies.
Survival depends more on planning than constant combat. A short journey can become dangerous when a blizzard arrives, clothing becomes wet, daylight disappears, or an injury leaves the player unable to travel efficiently.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore large connected regions while managing body temperature, calories, hydration, fatigue, health, and numerous medical conditions. Clothing layers provide warmth and wind protection, while shelters and fires can prevent exposure during dangerous weather.
Food can be scavenged, hunted, cooked, or obtained through fishing, while crafted equipment helps with longer-term survival. Wildlife such as wolves, bears, and moose can create serious threats, and Sandbox Survival Mode continues until the player dies.
