Tony Hawk’s Underground is an arcade skateboarding game that shifts the series toward a more personal storyline. Players create an unknown skater and follow their rise from neighborhood competitions to professional events while dealing with friendships, rivalries, sponsorships, and international skating opportunities.
Unlike earlier entries centered entirely on professional skaters, Underground places the player’s custom character at the heart of the campaign. The ability to leave the skateboard also makes its environments more open to exploration and unconventional objectives.
How the Gameplay Works
Skating uses the familiar combination of flips, grabs, grinds, manuals, reverts, wallrides, transfers, and special tricks. Linking different moves into a single uninterrupted sequence produces higher scores and becomes essential for advanced goals.
Players can step off the board, run, climb, and reach locations that would be difficult to access while skating. Story missions include competitions, gap challenges, races, demonstrations, and unusual tasks rather than relying entirely on score targets.
