Trek to Yomi is a cinematic samurai action game following Hiroki, a young swordsman bound by a promise to protect his village. After tragedy returns years later, his journey moves from human conflict into increasingly supernatural territory inspired by Japanese mythology and ideas surrounding death and duty.
The presentation uses a black-and-white cinematic style with fixed camera angles influenced by classic samurai films. Environments, framing, weather, and silhouettes play a major role in creating the atmosphere throughout the relatively focused campaign.
How the Gameplay Works
Combat primarily takes place on a two-dimensional plane using sword strikes, directional attacks, blocks, parries, and finishing moves. Ranged tools such as bows and throwing weapons can help weaken dangerous enemies before they reach close range.
Exploration between fights can reveal ammunition, health upgrades, stamina improvements, lore collectibles, and alternate paths. Later choices influence Hiroki’s personal journey and contribute to different endings.
