Trials of Fire is a tactical deck-building RPG set in a ruined fantasy world where survivors struggle across a harsh wasteland. Players lead a party of three heroes through procedurally arranged expeditions involving combat, difficult decisions, exploration, and limited resources.
Each hero contributes cards to the group’s available abilities, while weapons and equipment can add further cards to the deck. This means changing equipment can alter not only statistics but also the tactical options available during battle.
How the Gameplay Works
Combat takes place on a hex-based battlefield where characters move, attack, defend, and use abilities by playing cards. Positioning matters because melee range, movement distance, obstacles, and enemy placement can determine which actions are possible.
Between battles, the party travels across a strategic map and encounters events that can consume or provide resources. New equipment and character upgrades change the deck as the expedition continues, forcing players to adapt to whatever rewards and dangers appear.
