Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Winter Assault is a real-time strategy expansion that adds the Imperial Guard as a fully playable faction and introduces a new campaign involving several armies fighting over a powerful war machine. The conflict brings Imperial, Chaos, Ork, and Eldar forces into the same brutal war zone.
The Imperial Guard relies on large infantry formations, heavy defensive positions, armored vehicles, and officers that support nearby troops. The expansion also adds units and balance changes for the factions from the original Dawn of War.
How the Gameplay Works
Players capture Strategic Points to generate resources, build bases, recruit squads, reinforce units directly in the field, and use commanders or vehicles to break enemy positions. Cover, morale, ranged fire, melee units, and control of territory all influence battles.
The campaign is divided between opposing groups of factions and eventually forces choices about which army to continue supporting. Skirmish and multiplayer modes allow the new Imperial Guard army and expanded rosters to be used outside the story.
