Year Walk is a mysterious puzzle adventure inspired by the old Swedish tradition of årsgång, or year walking. The protagonist enters a dark winter forest on a supernatural ritual intended to reveal the future, only to encounter disturbing beings and symbols drawn from Scandinavian folklore.
Its story is deliberately cryptic and depends heavily on exploration and interpretation. Rather than explaining every creature or event directly, the game expects players to remember strange details, connect visual clues, and gradually understand the folklore surrounding the ritual.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move between illustrated locations in a first-person style, examining objects and solving environmental puzzles. Some clues are spread across several areas and require notes, pattern recognition, sound, or careful observation to interpret correctly.
The forest opens gradually as puzzles are solved, leading to increasingly unsettling encounters. Additional information and secrets beyond the initial ending provide more context for the events and encourage players to look beyond the most obvious path through the story.
