BLOODLETTER is a dark medieval roguelike deckbuilder that places players in the unsettling role of a barber-surgeon attempting to protect villagers from supernatural corruption. Its world blends historical medical practices, superstition, tarot-inspired imagery, and Lovecraftian horror. Rather than commanding traditional warriors, players rely on questionable treatments and a growing collection of cards while confronting ancient entities with their own unusual rules.
The game includes more than 80 cards alongside blessings, curses, villager abilities, and systems that can alter how individual cards function. Successful cleanses unlock additional content for later attempts, while numerous story fragments gradually reveal more about the strange medieval setting and the people living within it.
How the Gameplay Works
Each run revolves around constructing and improving a deck while attempting to keep villagers alive and counter the influence of a dreadful entity. Cards represent treatments, actions, and other techniques available to the barber-surgeon. The usefulness of a card can change depending on active effects and Transmuters, forcing players to reconsider familiar combinations as conditions change.
Villager abilities provide additional ways to influence a deck and shape a strategy during a run. Blessing and curse cards can dramatically alter circumstances, while each major entity follows its own win condition and presents a different challenge. Entities can be confronted across multiple difficulty levels, and completing successful cleanses opens further content for future attempts.
