China: Mao’s Legacy is a political and economic strategy game set during the difficult transition following Mao Zedong’s death. Players take control of the People’s Republic of China and decide how the country’s leadership responds to competing political factions, economic pressures, international relationships, and demands for reform.
Instead of following one predetermined historical path, the simulation allows China to develop differently depending on which groups gain influence and what policies the player chooses to support.
How the Gameplay Works
Players manage government policy through decisions involving the economy, ideology, social conditions, state institutions, diplomacy, and internal political power. Different factions favor different directions, making it difficult to satisfy everyone at once.
Domestic stability must be balanced against long-term goals while international events create additional opportunities and threats. Decisions can lead toward reform, tighter ideological control, alternative economic systems, or very different political outcomes.
