Commandos 3: Destination Berlin continues the World War II real-time tactics series with a stronger emphasis on shorter, more action-heavy missions. Players command a small group of Allied special forces across major European battlefields, including Stalingrad, Normandy, and Berlin.
The commandos retain their individual specialties, forcing players to select the right person for each part of an operation. Missions range from covert infiltration and sabotage to large battles where fighting can break out quickly, creating a faster pace than many of the carefully controlled scenarios in earlier entries.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control commandos individually or in groups from an isometric tactical view. Enemy patrol routes and lines of sight must be considered before moving through guarded areas. Characters can sneak behind guards, use specialized weapons, place explosives, climb into advantageous positions, or create distractions for other members of the squad.
Some missions take place during active battles where artillery, enemy troops, and other hazards make perfect stealth difficult. Objectives include surviving ambushes, protecting important locations, infiltrating enemy territory, sabotaging military targets, and participating in raids. The game also includes multiplayer modes separate from the main campaign.
