Crazy Taxi is an arcade-style driving game built around picking up passengers and delivering them to their destinations as quickly as possible. Players take control of one of several taxi drivers and race through busy city streets while ignoring normal traffic rules, jumping over obstacles, weaving between vehicles, and taking shortcuts whenever possible. Instead of realistic driving, the game focuses on speed, exaggerated handling, and constant movement against a strict time limit.
Each passenger chooses a destination somewhere around the city, and successful deliveries reward the player with money and additional time depending on the game mode. Faster trips, risky driving, and entertaining maneuvers can increase fares, encouraging players to drive aggressively rather than safely. Different drivers have their own taxis and personalities, while the open city layout gives players freedom to learn shortcuts and create faster routes between common destinations.
How the Gameplay Works
Players drive around the city searching for waiting passengers, stop close enough to pick them up, and then follow the on-screen direction indicator toward the requested destination. A countdown timer puts constant pressure on each trip, so reaching the destination quickly is more important than following roads normally. Players can cut through parks, drive down hills, jump over traffic, and use alternative routes to save time.
Special driving techniques such as Crazy Dash and Crazy Drift can be used to accelerate quickly, turn sharply, and maintain speed through difficult sections. Performing risky moves near traffic can also increase the passenger’s fare through bonuses. Arcade and Original modes provide different city layouts, while Crazy Box includes a collection of short challenges designed to test specific driving skills such as jumping, drifting, braking, and reaching targets within limited time.
