Darkness Within 2: The Dark Lineage is a Lovecraftian first-person horror adventure and a direct continuation of In Pursuit of Loath Nolder. Detective Howard Loreid remains haunted by the supernatural events of the previous investigation and discovers that his own past may be tied to the darkness surrounding him.
The sequel allows players to move freely through fully 3D environments while searching old buildings, disturbing locations, and forgotten records for answers. Psychological horror and investigation remain more important than action-heavy combat.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore from a first-person perspective, examine objects, read books and diaries, speak with characters, and collect information that may reveal useful clues. Certain text can contain details needed to understand later puzzles or parts of the mystery.
Environmental puzzles require manipulating objects and studying the surroundings carefully. Different difficulty settings can alter the amount of assistance provided, allowing players to choose how independently they want to investigate Howard’s increasingly disturbing situation.
