Deponia 2: Chaos on Deponia continues Rufus’s unusual attempt to leave the garbage-covered world of Deponia behind. His reunion with Goal quickly goes wrong, leaving her personality divided and creating another complicated problem that Rufus is convinced only he can solve. At the same time, larger events threaten Deponia itself, turning his personal ambitions into a much more important adventure.
The sequel expands the world with new locations, characters, puzzles, and increasingly absurd situations while maintaining the hand-drawn presentation and comedy of the first game. Rufus remains confident even when his plans repeatedly create new disasters, and much of the story revolves around manipulating situations in ways that seem logical only from his point of view.
How the Gameplay Works
Gameplay follows the traditional point-and-click adventure structure. Players investigate environments, speak with characters, collect items, and determine how those items can be used to overcome obstacles. Objects can sometimes be combined inside the inventory, while other puzzles require changing something in the environment or convincing a character to behave differently.
A major part of the story involves interacting with different sides of Goal’s divided personality, with Rufus trying to influence each one for his own purposes. Locations often contain several puzzles that can be worked on at the same time, allowing collected information and items to connect across different areas. Mini-games and logic challenges add further variety between the larger inventory puzzles and story sequences.
