Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is a tactical RPG set in Hinomoto, a collection of Netherworlds inspired by feudal Japan. The story follows wandering samurai Fuji and enthusiastic bushido fan Pirilika as they challenge a corrupt regime that has twisted the region’s traditional code of honor.
The game returns to many series staples while adding new systems such as Jumbification and Item Reincarnation. Its campaign mixes samurai imagery, demons, absurd humor, and increasingly exaggerated tactical progression.
How the Gameplay Works
Battles take place on grid-based maps where characters move, attack, use special skills, lift and throw units, and interact with stage effects. Jumbification can enlarge characters to gigantic size, allowing attacks that affect much larger areas of the battlefield.
Item Reincarnation lets equipment transform into new forms while retaining useful traits, adding another long-term optimization layer. Character classes, reincarnation, the Item World, Dark Assembly, auto-battle resources, and post-game challenges all return in revised forms. Players can follow the story normally or spend far longer creating specialized units and equipment with enormous statistics. Those mechanics also make the later stages more varied, because feudal-japan-inspired netherworld setting and grid-based tactical combat continue affecting how the player handles new objectives instead of becoming irrelevant after the opening hours.
