Dread Templar is a fast-paced retro first-person shooter that combines the movement and level design of classic 1990s shooters with modern upgrades and character progression. Players become the Dread Templar and descend into a violent supernatural world filled with demons, monsters, traps, hidden passages, and heavily armed enemies while pursuing revenge. The campaign is spread across more than 25 levels with numerous secret areas and optional challenges.
Combat is built around constant movement and a varied arsenal ranging from firearms to blades and infernal weaponry. More than 100 skill and upgrade unlocks allow weapons and character abilities to be customized, while secrets reward players who explore beyond the obvious route. Large boss encounters appear throughout the campaign and require players to combine movement, weapons, and special abilities effectively.
How the Gameplay Works
Players move rapidly through maze-like stages while shooting enemies, collecting ammunition, finding keys, solving environmental puzzles, and searching for hidden areas. Movement abilities such as dashing help avoid projectiles and cross dangerous spaces, while a bullet-time ability can temporarily slow the action and create opportunities to attack enemies more precisely.
Weapons and character skills can be enhanced through upgrade systems found during progression. Players can create different combinations from a large selection of upgrades instead of being restricted to one fixed build. Side areas and secrets contain useful rewards, while increasingly difficult enemies and bosses require frequent weapon switching and careful movement.
