EA Sports Cricket 2000 is a cricket simulation based around international competition and the 1999 Cricket World Cup. The game includes 12 national teams and allows players to take part in individual matches or larger tournament formats. Official ICC licensing, recognizable international teams, motion-captured player animation, and commentary from Richie Benaud and David Gower help recreate the presentation of cricket from the era.
Four main modes are included: Quick Game, Friendly, World Cup, and Super 6. Quick Game automatically selects teams and a ground for players who want to begin immediately, while Friendly allows more control over the competing nations. Tournament modes provide longer competitions and can support several human-controlled teams.
How the Gameplay Works
Players take control of batting, bowling, and important fielding decisions during matches. Batting requires choosing appropriate shots and timing them against different deliveries, while bowlers can vary their delivery and placement in an attempt to dismiss opposing batsmen. The computer handles much of the movement of fielders, although players can influence where the ball is returned.
World Cup Mode recreates an international tournament structure using the teams included in the game, while Super 6 focuses on the later competition stage. Multiplayer allows different human players to control participating countries, making it possible to organize a tournament with several people rather than playing exclusively against computer-controlled teams.
