About This Game:
Freedom Fighters is a third-person action shooter set in an alternate version of history where Soviet forces launch a large-scale invasion of New York City. Players take control of Christopher Stone, an ordinary plumber who becomes involved with the resistance after the occupation begins. As the conflict grows, Chris gradually changes from a civilian caught in the invasion into one of the most important leaders of the city’s underground resistance movement.
The game combines shooting with squad-based combat, allowing Chris to recruit resistance fighters and command them during missions. Battles take place across streets, buildings, military positions, docks, and other occupied areas of New York. Completing important objectives increases Chris’s Charisma, allowing him to lead progressively larger groups of fighters and turn small resistance operations into much larger battles against Soviet forces.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control Chris from a third-person perspective while using rifles, submachine guns, shotguns, sniper rifles, pistols, grenades, and other weapons against Soviet troops. Resistance fighters found throughout missions can be recruited when enough Charisma has been earned. Squad commands are kept simple, allowing teammates to be ordered to follow Chris, attack a selected position, or defend an area while the player handles the main combat and objectives.
Many operations contain objectives such as destroying enemy installations, capturing strategic positions, rescuing allies, and disrupting Soviet forces. Actions completed in one area can make another objective easier, encouraging players to think about the order in which missions are tackled. Charisma earned through successful resistance actions gradually increases the number of fighters Chris can recruit, eventually allowing squads of up to twelve members to fight alongside him.
