Hitman: Absolution is a third-person stealth action game that follows Agent 47 after he is given a highly personal assignment involving his former handler, Diana Burnwood, and a young girl named Victoria. After carrying out the opening contract, 47 begins questioning the situation and turns against the agency that once controlled him. His journey takes him through Chicago, South Dakota, and several other locations while he is hunted by both professional killers and criminal organizations.
The game keeps the series’ focus on disguises, stealth, environmental kills, and carefully planned assassinations, but places greater emphasis on cinematic storytelling and more tightly structured levels. Players can still approach many encounters in different ways, using disguises to enter restricted areas, avoiding unnecessary confrontations, creating accidents, or using firearms when stealth breaks down. A scoring system rewards cleaner and more professional approaches while penalizing careless violence.
How the Gameplay Works
Players control Agent 47 from a third-person perspective and move through missions containing guards, civilians, security systems, targets, and multiple routes. Disguises taken from defeated or unconscious characters can help 47 blend into different areas, although people wearing the same type of clothing may become suspicious if he remains too close. Instinct can be used to identify important characters, predict enemy movement, and temporarily help 47 avoid unwanted attention.
Targets can be eliminated using suppressed firearms, fiber wire, melee weapons, explosives, environmental objects, or staged accidents. Cover can be used during both stealth and gunfights, while Point Shooting allows 47 to mark several enemies and quickly eliminate them in sequence when enough Instinct is available. Completing missions with fewer witnesses, fewer unnecessary casualties, and more discreet kills results in higher scores and stronger mission ratings.
