About This Game:
Kingdoms of the Dump is a retro-styled JRPG set in a fantasy world constructed around garbage, cleaning products, discarded objects, and other unlikely inspirations. The adventure follows Dustin Binsley, a Trash Can Knight traveling across the Five and a Half Kingdoms of the Dump as a conflict with the Toxic Grimelin Army threatens the Lands of Fill.
Created with the spirit of 16-bit role-playing games, the adventure combines turn-based battles with platforming and more interactive exploration than a traditional top-down RPG. Different party members possess unique field abilities, allowing obstacles to be approached in different ways as the group travels through towns, dungeons, strange kingdoms, and a large overworld.
How the Gameplay Works
Enemies appear directly in the environment rather than attacking through random encounters. Entering combat moves the party onto a grid where positioning affects attacks, hazards, spells, and other tactical decisions. Timed button presses can improve certain actions, rewarding players who combine planning with good execution.
Outside combat, players can jump, climb through areas with different elevations, solve environmental problems, and switch between characters. Each party member has a unique field ability such as climbing, rusting objects, firing a weapon, or creating bubbles. Exploration eventually expands onto a large Mode 7-style world map connecting the game’s unusual kingdoms.
