About This Game:
Kriophobia is a third-person survival horror game set beneath the frozen landscape of Zhokhov Island. Geophysicist Anna arrives as part of a scientific expedition investigating abnormal magnetic activity, but a disaster forces the team into an abandoned Soviet military facility buried beneath the permafrost. Escaping the bunker quickly becomes more complicated when Anna begins encountering unnatural creatures and disturbing visions connected to her own past.
The game draws heavily from classic psychological and survival horror while using hand-crafted static camera angles and a visual style that mixes comic-book inking with painterly textures. The facility holds remnants of Cold War experiments as well as clues to Anna’s history, turning exploration into both a search for survival and an investigation into why the location feels strangely familiar to her.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore the underground base, search rooms for resources, solve puzzles, and decide whether confronting a creature is worth the risk. Supplies are limited and enemies can be dangerous, making avoidance a practical option instead of requiring every monster to be defeated.
Cold itself is another threat, so survival depends on managing more than health and ammunition. Environmental storytelling, documents, surreal sequences, and visual clues gradually reveal information about the bunker and Anna. Player decisions can influence parts of the narrative, while the mixture of fixed camera perspectives and carefully framed environments creates the deliberate pacing of older survival horror games.
