Last Days of Lazarus is a first-person psychological horror game set in post-Soviet Eastern Europe. Players control Lazarus, who returns to his family home after his mother’s death and finds the village consumed by disturbing religious imagery, decay, and supernatural events.
The game combines family tragedy, political history, folk beliefs, and body horror. Much of the unease comes from ordinary rural spaces becoming increasingly impossible and grotesque.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore houses, roads, churches, and surrounding areas, inspect objects, collect clues, and solve environmental puzzles. There is little conventional combat.
Story progression reveals more about Lazarus’ family and the forces affecting the village. The game remains mostly linear, with atmosphere and narrative carrying the experience rather than resource management or character upgrades. As more of the game opens up, first-person psychological horror remains central but gains extra depth from post-soviet eastern european setting and religious and folk-horror imagery. Those systems create room for different strategies, while environmental puzzles encourages better use of the tools already introduced. Progress therefore feels like an expansion of the original loop rather than a series of disconnected mechanics.
