Legend of Grimrock is a first-person dungeon crawler inspired by classic grid-based role-playing games. Four prisoners are exiled to Mount Grimrock and promised freedom if they can survive the ancient dungeon hidden beneath its summit, where monsters, traps, puzzles, and forgotten secrets fill each descending floor.
Players can create their own four-character party or use a prepared group. Race, class, attributes, skills, spells, equipment, and party positioning all matter as enemies become stronger and puzzles become increasingly elaborate.
How the Gameplay Works
Movement takes place one square at a time while combat occurs in real time. The party occupies a two-by-two formation, allowing front-row characters to use close-range weapons while rear characters rely on ranged attacks, spells, or longer-reaching equipment.
Exploration involves finding keys, pressing hidden switches, avoiding traps, solving riddles, and discovering concealed rooms. Food and equipment must also be managed while the party gains experience and improves its combat abilities.
