Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance is an expanded version of the stealth-action game centered on infiltration, information control, and the events surrounding the Big Shell facility. The story begins with Solid Snake aboard a tanker and later shifts to Raiden, a new operative sent into a hostage crisis that becomes far more complicated than the initial mission suggests.
Substance adds a large amount of supplemental content beyond the main Sons of Liberty campaign. VR Missions, Alternative Missions, Snake Tales, and other challenges give players more opportunities to practice stealth, weapons, movement, and unusual mission objectives outside the story.
How the Gameplay Works
Players avoid guards by watching patrols, using radar information, hiding behind cover, crawling through vents, hanging from ledges, distracting enemies, and using non-lethal weapons. Guards can communicate, investigate suspicious activity, call reinforcements, and clear areas in coordinated teams after an alarm.
First-person aiming allows precise shots at equipment, limbs, radios, or environmental objects. Dog tags can be collected by holding up guards, and different difficulty settings alter enemy awareness and resources. The expanded mission content tests specific mechanics in shorter, replayable scenarios.
