Project I.G.I.: I’m Going In is a tactical first-person shooter that places players in the role of former SAS soldier David Jones as he takes part in a series of covert military operations. The story follows Jones as he infiltrates heavily guarded facilities, tracks down dangerous targets, and works to prevent stolen nuclear technology from falling into the wrong hands. Missions take place across large outdoor locations, military bases, airfields, warehouses, and secure compounds where careful planning can be just as important as accurate shooting.

Unlike many fast-paced shooters, Project I.G.I. encourages players to observe enemy positions, choose safer routes, and avoid unnecessary firefights whenever possible. Large mission areas give players freedom to approach objectives from different directions, while limited health and ammunition make reckless attacks risky. The game became well known for its combination of stealth, long-range combat, open environments, and realistic military-style missions.

How the Gameplay Works
Players control David Jones from a first-person perspective and complete missions involving infiltration, sabotage, rescue operations, intelligence gathering, and elimination of important targets. Before moving into heavily defended areas, players can observe enemy patrols and use the environment to plan an approach. Guards can be avoided, eliminated quietly, or engaged directly depending on the situation, while alarms can bring additional enemies into the area if the player is detected.

Weapons include pistols, assault rifles, sniper rifles, machine guns, and explosives, with ammunition often limited during missions. Players can use binoculars and a map computer to study the surrounding area and locate objectives, buildings, and enemy positions. Because the original game does not provide manual saving during missions, completing objectives requires careful movement and planning, especially during longer stages where a mistake can force the player to restart the entire mission.
