Quake II is a science-fiction first-person shooter that sends a lone marine into battle against the Strogg, a hostile cybernetic civilization threatening humanity. After an invasion force suffers heavy losses, the player finds themselves operating deep inside enemy territory while attempting to disrupt Strogg defenses and complete the larger military operation.
The campaign takes place across interconnected industrial facilities, military compounds, processing centers, and alien structures. A steadily expanding weapon collection and increasingly dangerous enemies keep the action growing in intensity as players push deeper into the Strogg homeworld.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore levels from a first-person perspective while using firearms such as the shotgun, machine gun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher, railgun, and heavier energy weapons. Enemies vary in speed, durability, and attack style, making weapon selection increasingly important as stronger Strogg appear.
Objectives are provided during each section and may require activating machinery, destroying important targets, finding access routes, or reaching new areas. Ammunition, health, armor, and secrets are hidden throughout the environments, rewarding players who search beyond the most direct route.
