About This Game:
Quake 4 is a science-fiction first-person shooter and a direct continuation of the story from Quake II. Humanity has launched an invasion of the Strogg homeworld after defeating their leader, and players take the role of Marine Corporal Matthew Kane as part of the elite Rhino Squad. What begins as a military assault quickly turns into a more personal fight as Kane becomes directly affected by Strogg technology.
The campaign combines military science fiction with the darker industrial environments associated with the Quake universe. Players move through Strogg bases, ruined battlefields, processing facilities, and enormous mechanical installations while fighting alongside other human soldiers and confronting increasingly powerful cybernetic enemies.
How the Gameplay Works
Players fight from a first-person perspective using shotguns, machine guns, energy weapons, explosives, and other futuristic firearms. Several weapons can be improved during the campaign, increasing their effectiveness or adding new functions as Kane progresses deeper into Strogg territory.
Although much of the campaign is fought on foot, some missions introduce military vehicles and mounted weapons. Friendly soldiers frequently accompany Kane during larger battles, while later stages change his abilities and movement after an important story event. Separate arena-style multiplayer modes provide faster competitive combat outside the campaign.
