Red Faction is a science-fiction first-person shooter set on Mars, where workers employed by the Ultor Corporation live under dangerous and oppressive conditions. Players control Parker, a miner who becomes involved in a growing rebellion after years of mistreatment and a mysterious plague push the workers toward open conflict.
The game is especially known for its Geo-Mod technology, which allows selected parts of the environment to be destroyed in real time. Walls, floors, and other surfaces can sometimes be blasted apart to create alternative routes, expose enemies, or change the shape of a combat area.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore mines, laboratories, military facilities, and other Martian locations while fighting security personnel and additional threats. Weapons range from pistols and rifles to explosives and heavier equipment, with certain weapons becoming particularly useful when destroying parts of the environment.
Vehicles can be controlled during several parts of the campaign, changing the pace from normal first-person combat. Story objectives gradually move Parker from the mining rebellion into a much larger investigation involving Ultor, the plague, and the corporation’s activities on Mars.
