Reigns: The Witcher brings the decision-driven Reigns formula into the dark fantasy world of The Witcher. Rather than retelling Geralt of Rivia’s adventures in a traditional RPG format, the story is presented through the exaggerated ballads of Dandelion. Familiar characters such as Yennefer, Triss, and Vesemir appear throughout a constantly changing collection of stories where Geralt’s choices can lead to glory, embarrassment, unexpected friendships, or an early death.
Thousands of possible storyline combinations allow familiar Witcher situations to develop in unusual directions. Alongside Geralt’s adventures, players also help Dandelion improve his career as a bard by building increasingly impressive versions of the stories he performs.
How the Gameplay Works
Most situations are handled by swiping left or right between two possible decisions. A request that appears simple can produce consequences later in the story, so helping one character may create problems with another. Monsters, villagers, friends, and familiar Witcher personalities regularly place Geralt in situations where neither answer is necessarily safe.
Dandelion’s retellings also introduce additional activities beyond basic decision making. Players can perform stories away from the tavern, solve puzzles, unlock new deeds, and discover additional characters. Repeated adventures gradually improve the bard’s career while opening more possible combinations within his increasingly elaborate version of Geralt’s legend.
