About This Game:
Return of the Obra Dinn is a first-person deduction game about an East India Company ship that mysteriously returns to port in 1807 after disappearing years earlier. All sixty people originally aboard are either dead or missing, leaving an insurance investigator to determine exactly what happened to each person.
A supernatural pocket watch can reveal the final moment of a corpse’s life, freezing the scene at the instant of death. By exploring these moments and listening to the seconds before them, players gradually reconstruct the disastrous voyage.
How the Gameplay Works
Players examine bodies and use the Memento Mortem watch to enter frozen scenes from the past. Every scene can be explored in three dimensions to identify faces, uniforms, locations, weapons, and other clues.
The ship’s manifest contains crew names, roles, nationalities, and sketches. Players must match identities to faces and determine each person’s fate, including how they died and who or what was responsible.
