Rise of Nations: Extended Edition combines real-time strategy with ideas normally associated with turn-based empire games. Players guide a nation from ancient history into the modern era, expanding borders, constructing cities, researching technologies, gathering resources, and building armies capable of fighting across land, sea, and air.
National borders and city development make expansion more structured than in many traditional RTS games. Different civilizations possess unique bonuses and units, while technological advancement can completely transform warfare as spearmen and archers eventually give way to tanks, aircraft, and modern weapons.
How the Gameplay Works
Players gather multiple resources and use them to build cities, economic structures, military facilities, wonders, and research buildings. Expanding territory creates national borders, while capturing enemy cities can shift control of entire regions.
Research advances the nation through successive historical ages and unlocks stronger technologies and military units. Combat can involve infantry, cavalry, artillery, ships, aircraft, and nuclear weapons, while the Conquer the World mode adds a strategic map linking individual battles into a larger campaign.
