About This Game:
SOMA is a science-fiction horror game from Frictional Games set inside PATHOS-II, an underwater research facility deep beneath the Atlantic Ocean. Players control Simon Jarrett, who unexpectedly finds himself inside the deteriorating facility and begins searching for an explanation of where he is and what has happened to the people who once worked there.
The story explores questions involving consciousness, identity, humanity, and artificial intelligence while the station continues falling apart around Simon. Machines behaving like people and hostile creatures create danger, but the mystery surrounding PATHOS-II is just as important as the horror itself.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore the facility from a first-person perspective, searching rooms, operating machinery, reading information, communicating with characters, and solving environmental puzzles. Progress frequently requires restoring systems or finding ways through damaged sections of the station.
Simon is not equipped like a traditional action hero, so hostile encounters usually involve avoiding creatures, hiding, and finding a safe route past them. Exploration and narrative remain the main focus as players travel through different parts of PATHOS-II and discover what happened beneath the ocean.
