South Park: The Fractured But Whole is a turn-based role-playing game built around the show’s superhero parody, with the New Kid joining rival groups of costumed children fighting over the future of their planned media franchise. The story uses South Park’s familiar characters, locations, and crude comedy while presenting an original adventure centered on Coon and Friends.
Compared with The Stick of Truth, combat places much more emphasis on positioning. Superhero classes provide different attack shapes, movement ranges, status effects, and support abilities, and the player can combine powers from several classes as the New Kid develops.
How the Gameplay Works
Battles take place on a grid where characters move before using attacks, healing skills, knockback effects, or special powers. Positioning enemies against obstacles or other fighters can create extra damage, while some attacks affect rows, columns, cones, or specific tiles. A timeline shows turn order and helps players plan around upcoming enemy actions.
Outside combat, the New Kid explores South Park, completes quests, collects equipment and crafting materials, and uses companion abilities to reach blocked areas. Artifacts and DNA slots affect statistics and bonuses, while Ultimate attacks provide powerful team actions once the required meter is filled.
