About This Game:
Stirring Abyss is a Lovecraftian tactical RPG following the surviving crew of the USS Salem, a United States Navy submarine that sinks during a secret Cold War research mission. Trapped on the ocean floor beside the ruins of an ancient civilization, the survivors must search the darkness for missing crewmates and materials capable of repairing their crippled submarine.
The deeper expeditions travel, the stranger the surrounding ocean becomes. Crew members can suffer exhaustion and psychological damage, while mutations found in the abyss can provide powerful new abilities at a disturbing cost. Decisions made throughout the story influence both individual survivors and the eventual fate of the world.
How the Gameplay Works
Players command a small squad in turn-based tactical encounters where movement, line of sight, positioning, character skills, and environmental conditions all influence survival. Darkness hides threats until areas are explored or illuminated, making scouting an important part of each expedition.
Salvaged resources can be used to create weapons and armor or invested into repairing and upgrading the USS Salem. Individual sailors develop skills and traits while potentially receiving mutations that alter their combat abilities. Story Mode focuses on the submarine’s mystery, while Endless Mode creates an increasingly difficult roguelike challenge.
