The Chronicles of Myrtana: Archolos is a massive standalone total-conversion RPG built on Gothic II. It follows Marvin, a refugee who arrives on the island of Archolos seeking safety but instead becomes caught in poverty, political tension, criminal activity, and conflicts that gradually reshape his future.
The island contains a large city, farms, mines, wilderness, villages, ruins, and dangerous underground areas. Hundreds of quests and detailed character interactions create an experience centered on living within the world rather than simply following a sequence of combat missions.
How the Gameplay Works
Players explore freely, speak with NPCs, complete quests, fight in real time, learn skills from trainers, and improve equipment. Character development requires spending learning points, making choices about melee combat, ranged weapons, magic, crafting, or other useful abilities.
Joining organizations and making quest decisions can alter relationships and later opportunities. The world is dangerous at low levels, so choosing where to travel, finding better equipment, and learning which enemies can realistically be defeated are major parts of progression.
